Is Not a Med Spa Treatment

Aspen has no shortage of med spas. What it lacks is a licensed acupuncture doctor who treats your face as part of your whole body — the way this medicine was designed to work.

❌ Med Spa Approach

💉

Surface-level needling

Cosmetic needles placed superficially by aestheticians or nurses trained in appearance, not medicine. No meridian knowledge. No constitutional assessment.

🎯

Treats the symptom

Fine lines, loss of volume, and dull skin are addressed as isolated cosmetic problems — disconnected from what's happening in the rest of your body.

Short-term results

Results that fade because the underlying health patterns driving aging — poor circulation, qi stagnation, hormonal shifts — are never addressed.

🔬

No systemic benefit

You leave looking marginally different. Your sleep, digestion, energy, and stress are unchanged. The treatment ends at your skin.

vs

✦ Alpine Meridian Approach

🌿

Meridian-based treatment

A licensed acupuncture doctor (L.Ac/DACM) works with the body's energy channels — stimulating specific points that govern facial musculature, collagen production, and qi flow to the face.

⚖️

Treats the whole person

Aging in the face reflects aging in the body. We address the root constitutional patterns — Liver qi stagnation, Kidney deficiency, Spleen dampness — that manifest in your appearance.

🌱

Long-lasting transformation

When the body's underlying patterns are corrected, results are sustained. Patients report looking and feeling better months after completing their series — not just days.

Whole-body benefits

Facial rejuvenation patients routinely report better sleep, reduced anxiety, improved digestion, and higher energy — because the treatment works on everything, not just your face.

What the Valley Is Saying

★★★★★

"I'd been to two different Aspen med spas for cosmetic treatments and was underwhelmed. A friend sent me to Alpine Meridian. After my facial rejuvenation series, my skin looks better than it has in ten years — and my sleep and anxiety improved dramatically. It's not the same thing at all."

Christine W.Aspen, CO — Facial Rejuvenation Patient
★★★★★

"Blew my knee out skiing in January. My orthopedic surgeon said acupuncture could help with the recovery — I was skeptical. Six sessions with Alpine Meridian and I was back on the mountain three weeks ahead of schedule. The difference was remarkable."

Tom H.Glenwood Springs, CO — Sports Recovery Patient
★★★★★

"I drove from Carbondale twice a week during my facial rejuvenation series. Worth every mile. The results are subtle at first and then suddenly everyone is asking if you've done something. The whole-body approach is what sets it apart from anything you'd find at a spa."

A Licensed Acupuncture Doctor. Not a Spa.

Alpine Meridian was founded on a single conviction: the Roaring Fork Valley deserves acupuncture practiced at the highest level of the medicine — not as an add-on service at a wellness center, and not by someone who learned to place needles in a weekend course.

Our practitioner holds a Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine (DACM) with advanced post-graduate training in facial rejuvenation acupuncture (Mei Zen), sports medicine acupuncture, and women's health. We've practiced in the valley since 2016, treating skiers, executives, locals, and everyone in between.

The difference between a licensed acupuncture doctor and a med spa technician is the same as the difference between a physician and a phlebotomist. Both work with needles. One practices medicine.

Roaring Fork Valley Acupuncture — Questions

What is facial rejuvenation acupuncture and how does it work?

Facial rejuvenation acupuncture is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment performed by a licensed acupuncture doctor using constitutional Chinese medicine principles. Fine needles are placed in both facial points and systemic body points to stimulate collagen production, improve facial circulation, lift and tone facial muscles, and address the underlying health patterns that drive aging. Unlike med spa treatments, it works with the body's meridian system — producing results that improve whole-body health alongside appearance.

How is this different from what a med spa offers?

Med spas typically employ aestheticians, nurses, or nurse practitioners trained in cosmetic procedures. Their facial needling techniques are superficial and cosmetically focused — they don't involve meridian theory, constitutional diagnosis, or treatment of the body as a system. Alpine Meridian's practitioner holds a DACM (Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine) — 4+ years of graduate training specifically in this medicine. The difference in depth, safety, and systemic effect is significant.

What areas of the Roaring Fork Valley do you serve?

We serve Aspen, Glenwood Springs, Carbondale, and Basalt. Our primary practice is located in Aspen at 520 E Durant Ave. We also see patients throughout the valley — contact us to discuss the most convenient arrangement for your location.

How many acupuncture sessions will I need?

It depends on your condition and goals. For facial rejuvenation, we recommend an initial series of 10–12 sessions over 5–6 weeks, followed by monthly maintenance. For pain management and general wellness, most patients see significant improvement in 6–8 sessions. At your free initial consultation, we'll give you a clear, honest assessment of what to expect for your specific situation.

Is acupuncture safe at altitude?

Yes — and altitude actually makes some patients more receptive to acupuncture. High-altitude living creates specific physiological patterns (altitude fatigue, dehydration, respiratory stress, sleep disruption) that acupuncture addresses particularly well. Our practice has treated thousands of patients in the Roaring Fork Valley, and we have specific expertise in the health challenges unique to mountain living.

Do you accept insurance?

We are an out-of-network provider and do not bill insurance directly. Many PPO plans cover acupuncture — we provide a superbill after each visit that you can submit to your insurer for reimbursement. We also accept HSA/FSA. Contact us if you have questions about coverage.

How much does acupuncture cost in the Roaring Fork Valley?

Initial consultations are free (20 minutes). Standard acupuncture sessions are $150–$250 depending on treatment complexity and duration. Facial rejuvenation sessions are $200–$300 per session, with the full 10–12 session series running $2,000–$3,000. We accept HSA/FSA and provide superbills for insurance reimbursement. Most PPO plans reimburse 60–80% of acupuncture costs.

What should I expect at my first acupuncture appointment?

Your first visit begins with a free 20-minute consultation where we review your health history, discuss your goals, and perform a Chinese medicine assessment (pulse, tongue, constitutional evaluation). If you proceed to treatment the same day, the full session takes about 60–75 minutes. Most patients feel deeply relaxed during treatment. Some experience immediate symptom relief; others notice changes over 2–3 sessions.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture needles are hair-thin — about 1/40th the diameter of a standard hypodermic needle. Most patients feel a brief sensation upon insertion (a mild ache, warmth, or tingling called "de qi") that fades within seconds. Once needles are placed, most patients relax deeply and many fall asleep during treatment. Facial rejuvenation needles are even finer and virtually painless.

How quickly will I see results from acupuncture?

For acute pain, many patients notice improvement after 1–2 sessions. For chronic conditions, significant improvement typically occurs over 6–8 sessions (3–4 weeks of twice-weekly treatment). For facial rejuvenation, visible changes usually appear around session 5–6, with full results after the complete 10–12 session series. Results are cumulative — each session builds on the last.

Can acupuncture help with ski and sports injuries?

Yes. Acupuncture is recommended by the American College of Physicians and the NIH for musculoskeletal pain. We treat ACL recovery, rotator cuff injuries, IT band syndrome, low back pain, and altitude fatigue regularly — especially for Aspen skiers and Glenwood Springs outdoor athletes. Many patients recover 2–4 weeks faster when adding acupuncture to their rehabilitation protocol.

Do you treat anxiety and stress with acupuncture?

Yes. Acupuncture has clinically documented effects on cortisol regulation, HPA axis function, and heart rate variability — all biomarkers of stress response. Most patients report noticeable anxiety reduction within 3–4 sessions. We treat the Roaring Fork Valley's specific stress profile: high cost of living, altitude effects on sleep, and the demands of mountain life. It's one of our most common treatment areas.

Is Alpine Meridian a med spa?

No. Alpine Meridian is a licensed acupuncture practice run by a Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine (DACM). We are not a med spa, wellness center, or cosmetic clinic. The distinction matters: our practitioner has 4+ years of graduate training in Chinese medicine, not a weekend certification in cosmetic needling. See our full FAQ for more on how we differ from med spas.

Can I book same-week appointments?

Yes. We typically have same-week availability, especially mid-week. For Aspen visitors on short stays, we can schedule an initial consultation and first treatment on the same visit. We offer early morning (7am) and evening appointments to accommodate ski schedules and busy valley lives. Call (970) 555-0188 or use our online form to check availability.
