Pricing & Cost

How much does acupuncture cost in Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley?

Acupuncture at Alpine Meridian costs $150–$220 per session in Aspen. Initial new patient appointments (90 minutes) are $220. Follow-up appointments (60 minutes) are $150–$175. Facial rejuvenation sessions are $195–$220. Many PPO plans cover acupuncture — we provide a superbill for reimbursement. HSA and FSA accepted.

How much does facial rejuvenation acupuncture cost at Alpine Meridian?

A single facial rejuvenation session is $195–$220. The recommended initial series of 10–12 sessions costs $1,800–$2,400 total — we offer series pricing at $180/session. Monthly maintenance appointments are $195. The 10–12 session series is the minimum effective dose for lasting visible results.

Does insurance cover acupuncture in the Roaring Fork Valley?

Many PPO plans now cover acupuncture, particularly for pain management. Alpine Meridian is an out-of-network provider. After each visit we provide a superbill with diagnosis and procedure codes for you to submit to your insurer. Call the member services number on your card and ask: "Do I have out-of-network acupuncture benefits?" Most PPO patients receive 60–80% reimbursement after their deductible. HSA and FSA cards are accepted directly.

Is acupuncture worth the cost compared to physical therapy or massage?

For conditions acupuncture treats well — chronic pain, headaches, anxiety, women's health, musculoskeletal injury — the evidence base is as strong as or stronger than physical therapy. A comparable course of PT for back pain in the Roaring Fork Valley costs $150–$200/session, similar to acupuncture, but addresses only the structural component. Acupuncture treats the structural and systemic patterns simultaneously, often resolving chronic presentations that PT plateaus on.

Timelines & What to Expect

How many acupuncture sessions will I need?

For general wellness and acute pain, most patients see significant improvement in 6–8 sessions over 4–6 weeks. Chronic conditions typically require 10–12 sessions before transitioning to monthly maintenance. For facial rejuvenation, we recommend 10–12 sessions over 5–6 weeks. At your first consultation, we give you a specific estimate based on your actual presentation — not a generic answer.

How many facial rejuvenation sessions before I see results?

Most patients notice subtle improvements after sessions 3–5. Consistent, visible results — improved skin texture, lifted contour, reduced fine lines — appear after 6–8 sessions. Maximum results are seen at completion of the 10–12 session series. Results continue developing for 2–4 weeks after the final session as collagen synthesis continues.

How long does an acupuncture session take?

Initial new patient appointments are 90 minutes — 30 minutes intake and consultation, 60 minutes treatment. Follow-up appointments are 60 minutes. Facial rejuvenation appointments are 75–90 minutes. We do not cut sessions short.

What should I expect at my first acupuncture appointment?

Your first appointment is 90 minutes. The first 30 minutes is comprehensive intake: health history, current concerns and goals, tongue and pulse diagnosis. The next 60 minutes is treatment — you'll lie comfortably while fine needles are placed at specific points. Most patients report profound relaxation; many fall asleep. After treatment we discuss your treatment plan and timeline. Come well-hydrated and having eaten a light meal within 2 hours of your appointment.

How quickly will I feel results from acupuncture?

Many patients feel immediate effects after the first session — reduced pain, improved sleep, calmer nervous system. For complex or chronic conditions, meaningful improvement typically begins at sessions 3–5. Acupuncture has a cumulative effect — each session builds on the last. Patients who complete a full series consistently report better outcomes than those who stop after 2–3 sessions.

Facial Rejuvenation vs. Med Spa

What is facial rejuvenation acupuncture and how is it different from a med spa?

Facial rejuvenation acupuncture is performed by a licensed acupuncture doctor (DACM) using meridian-based Chinese medicine principles. Needles are placed in both facial points and systemic body points to stimulate collagen, improve circulation, lift facial muscles, and address the constitutional health patterns driving aging. Med spas use cosmetic needles placed by aestheticians or nurses trained in appearance — not medicine. Alpine Meridian's practitioner holds a DACM, the highest academic credential in the field. The systemic benefits — better sleep, reduced anxiety, improved energy — are something no med spa treatment delivers.

Aspen has many med spas. Why choose acupuncture for anti-aging?

Aspen's med spas offer excellent cosmetic treatments for patients who want surface-level results. Facial rejuvenation acupuncture is for patients who want results that go deeper — literally and figuratively. The treatment works with the body's meridian system to address why aging is happening, not just what it looks like. Patients completing a facial rejuvenation series consistently report whole-body improvements alongside their appearance gains. It is not a replacement for med spa treatments — it is a more comprehensive approach for a different kind of patient.

What does facial rejuvenation acupuncture actually do to the skin?

Facial rejuvenation acupuncture produces the following measurable effects: stimulates fibroblast activity to increase collagen and elastin production, improves local microcirculation bringing nutrients and oxygen to facial tissues, lifts and tones facial muscles through targeted motor point stimulation, reduces inflammation that accelerates skin aging, and addresses systemic patterns (stress, hormonal imbalance, digestive weakness) that manifest in the face. Results are gradual and cumulative — the mechanism is different from injectables, which produce faster but shorter-lived and more dramatic results.

Can I do facial rejuvenation acupuncture and Botox or fillers?

Yes, with timing considerations. We recommend waiting 2 weeks after Botox or fillers before starting facial rejuvenation acupuncture. The treatments are complementary — acupuncture supports the overall health of the skin and underlying tissues while injectables address specific volume and movement concerns. Many Alpine Meridian patients use facial acupuncture for general skin health and injectables for targeted corrections.

Conditions & Safety

Does acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture needles are hair-thin — approximately 10 times thinner than a hypodermic needle. Most patients feel minimal to no pain during insertion. You may feel a brief sensation of pressure, warmth, or mild ache (called 'de qi' in Chinese medicine) as the needle reaches the correct depth — this indicates effective stimulation. The most common patient experience is profound relaxation. Many patients fall asleep during treatment.

Is acupuncture safe?

Acupuncture is extremely safe when performed by a licensed acupuncture doctor. Serious adverse events are rare — estimated at fewer than 1 per 10,000 treatments. Alpine Meridian uses single-use, sterile, disposable needles exclusively. Common minor side effects include slight bruising at needle sites (5–10% of patients) and temporary fatigue after treatment (20–30% of first-time patients). We conduct a full intake assessment before your first treatment to identify any contraindications specific to your health history.

Is acupuncture safe at altitude?

Yes. Acupuncture is safe and effective at altitude. High-altitude living creates specific physiological patterns — altitude fatigue, dehydration-related qi depletion, respiratory stress, sleep disruption — that acupuncture addresses well. Our practice has treated patients at Aspen's 7,945-foot elevation since 2016. If you're recently arrived from lower elevation and experiencing altitude adjustment symptoms, acupuncture can meaningfully accelerate acclimatization.

What conditions does acupuncture treat?

The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes acupuncture for 91 conditions. Strong evidence supports treatment of: musculoskeletal pain (back, neck, knee, shoulder), headaches and migraines, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia, anxiety and depression, insomnia, menstrual disorders, menopausal symptoms, infertility, IBS and digestive issues, allergic rhinitis, and chemotherapy-induced nausea. The American College of Physicians recommends acupuncture as first-line treatment for chronic low back pain.

Can acupuncture help with ski and outdoor sport injuries in the Roaring Fork Valley?

Yes — and the evidence is strong. For the injury profiles common in the valley — ACL and MCL injuries, rotator cuff strain, IT band syndrome, plantar fasciitis, altitude fatigue — acupuncture produces measurable results. Many patients return to activity 20–40% faster than with rest and physical therapy alone. We also see excellent results with chronic overuse injuries that have plateaued with conventional physical therapy.

Can acupuncture help with anxiety and stress?

Yes. Acupuncture has documented, measurable effects on the autonomic nervous system — shifting it from sympathetic (fight-or-flight) to parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) dominance. Clinical studies show acupuncture reduces cortisol levels, improves heart rate variability (a marker of stress resilience), and produces effects comparable to SSRIs for mild-to-moderate anxiety without medication side effects. Roaring Fork Valley residents dealing with high-cost-of-living pressure, high-performance demands, and the intensity of Aspen's social environment respond particularly well.

Can acupuncture help with women's health issues?

Yes. Chinese medicine has a 2,000-year clinical record in women's health. Acupuncture has strong evidence for: menstrual irregularity and painful periods, PCOS, perimenopause and hot flashes, fertility support (both natural conception and IVF adjunct), postpartum recovery, and hormonal balance. Multiple randomized controlled trials show acupuncture reduces hot flash frequency by 30–50% in perimenopausal women. For fertility patients, studies show improved IVF outcomes when acupuncture is used as an adjunct.

About Alpine Meridian & Locations

What is a DACM and how is it different from a LAc?

L.Ac (Licensed Acupuncturist) is the professional license required to practice acupuncture in Colorado. DACM (Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine) is the terminal academic degree — a 4-year doctoral program beyond the master's level, requiring 3,500+ clinical hours and advanced training in integrative medicine, research methods, and complex case management. Alpine Meridian's practitioner holds both credentials, plus post-graduate specialty certifications in facial rejuvenation (Mei Zen) and sports medicine acupuncture (SMAC). The DACM is the highest academic standard available in the profession.
